ZANXEY There's a Sword Blocking Mod that removes the shield entirely and replaces it with - you guessed it - sword blocking. It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but I think it's worth a mention.

ZANXEY RealmKebab nope, works on any server. This is a completely client-side, visual mod, and doesn't affect how a shield works (to block, you need a shield). First line of the mod description literally says it all.
