Yes, generally any 7.x version of Wurst can be used with other mods. Let's see why it's crashing for you. Please post your crash report file. You can find it in the .minecraft/crash-reports folder. It should be a .txt file with the date of the crash on it.
Error code -1 basically just means that a crash report was generated, but the file itself is needed to see what caused the crash.
